Catholic voices
A Catholic adviser
Among the religious advisers of the series is a Catholic priest: Father David Guffey, C.S.C., a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross and head of Family Theater Productions2. He is one of the experts who read the scripts before production and give notes; not every suggestion is taken up8.
In 2025 the Jesuit Joe Hoover asked in the Catholic magazine America whether Catholics should watch the series, and he closed with an invitation to watch it2.
Our approach
The Bible and the series side by side
- We do not rate the series. For each episode we name the Bible passages behind it.
- What the series adds to the Gospels, we mark as such.
- Bible references follow the New American Bible, Revised Edition; in matters of faith we rely on Catholic sources.
- People, places, daily life and the times have pages of their own, with a map and sources.
