About Bible Behind the Screen

What we do

After an episode or a film, questions often remain: Who was this person? Where is this place? How did people live back then? We answer with what the Gospels report, with a map and with historical background. For The Chosen we have a guide to every episode; for other films and series about Jesus we set their scenes beside the Bible.

How we work

• Bible references follow the New American Bible, Revised Edition, the Catholic Bible translation of the U.S. bishops. We give the references and sum up the passages in our own words.
• In matters of faith we rely on Catholic sources: the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the writings of the popes, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Custody of the Holy Land and the Catholic Encyclopedia. Facts about films and series come from the studios, the platforms and the trade press.
• Every figure and every statement has a source and a date when we checked it. When we are not sure, we say so.
• We treat the faith with respect, and we describe the Jewish groups of the time of Jesus historically and without prejudice.
• We do not rate films and series; we show what the Bible says and what the screen adds.

Bible Behind the Screen is an independent website and is not affiliated with the makers or the distributors of the films and series it discusses, including The Chosen. We use their titles only to refer to them and show no clips, stills, logos, posters or photos of the actors. Where to watch, we link to the official offers; more under The Chosen.

Pictures

We draw the maps ourselves, from public-domain map data (Natural Earth), with the locations of the places from Pleiades and OpenStreetMap. For people we use icons and public-domain paintings by old masters, never AI-generated faces. Illustrations made with AI tools are marked “Illustration (AI)”; we do not depict Jesus in such images.
